asmal was established
as a marketing
and research consultancy operating exclusively within the travel
and tourism industry. In 1991 the company published the first issue of
asmal new zealand travel, providing
quarterly analysis of the outbound travel markets of New Zealand and in the year 2005 introduced the monthly data update
option for the report.
Over the years
asmal
has completed a wide range of specialist market studies for leading
Asia/Pacific organisations
that have
included Qantas Airways, Japan Airlines, Pacific Asia Travel Association,
Continental Airlines, Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, the South Pacific
Bureau for Economic Cooperation, the Hawaii Visitors Bureau and Tourism
Australia.
For more than twenty years, asmal
was retained by
the Fiji
Visitors Bureau, to
provide
key market analysis and research advisory services to its head office and
overseas directorates. In 1986, asmal designed and implemented Fiji's on-going
International Visitor Survey programme for the Ministry of Tourism - a
project that continues to this day interviewing more than 3,000 overseas
visitors per year for their visitation and expenditure characteristics.
asmal's principal,
Alasdair McIntyre, has presented many papers on tourism
research and travel market analysis to industry conferences and workshops throughout the
Asia and Pacific region. He is a former Chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association's
Research Authority and a recipient of a PATA citation for his "outstanding contributions
to travel research in the South Pacific".
